HR Manager Career

Human resources managers are responsible for finding the most talented employees for corporate positions and matching them with jobs for which they will be best suited. These professionals will question potential employees through interviews, trying to hire individuals who will increase productivity and morale, in addition to decreasing job turnover.

Directors of human resources are responsible for managing various departments which can include employment and placement, benefits, training, and labor relations. Placement managers are responsible for hiring employees and screening applicants, while employee recruiters are responsible for traveling within a community and attempting to screen and interview the best applicants.

There are various types of degrees that can help prepare someone for working in human resources. Certifications and associate's degrees can help someone get a start in HR. These programs are designed to give a good knowledge base that is necessary for solving problems in the workplace. There are entry-level positions in this field that don't require a degree; however, the most competitive positions do require a bachelor's or master's degree.

Specifically, the Human Resoruces Manager organizes and monitors the whole recruitment process of the company. First they decide whether the job at hand can be accomplished on a contractual basis or requires recruitment. In the latter case, the HR Manager will post advertisements for the position, conduct recruitment tests and interviews and finally recruit the necessary candidates. Next, they typically organize training for the newly recruited employees. This includes a number of elements like induction, orientation lectures and icebreaker sessions. The HR Manager uses their own communication skills to connect the workers and gel them as a team. Further, they motivate employees through regular interaction sessions, monitors their performance and rewards the exceptional achievers. HR Managers work in collaboration with the accounts department to decide the salary and payroll issues of the workforce. The HR Manager also takes feedback from employees and uses it to help management be more effective. Finally, HR Managers intervene in labor or industrial disputes and helps settle them to the satisfaction of all concerned.

HR managers may also be responsible for developing or deploying employee engagement policies and campaigns to increase employee satisfaction and retention.

Human resource development careers can be satisfying and well-paid careers with advancement opportunities in larger companies. The average salary of a human resource development specialist is around $55,000 per year though of course this varies according to regions as with any job.

A career in HR requires a person be a capable and persuasive communicator, be familiar with standardized employment testing. Understand the basic labor laws as well as company policy. Be competent in written communication skills and be a strong people person.
